Abscess in Cats
Abscess Care, treatment and prognosis in Cats (Feline) ;
A small painful localized cavity filled with pus is called Abscess.
Staphylococcus is the most common bacteria which cause the skin abscesses. A skin abscess can be the result of a bacterial infection that occurs when Staphylococcus aureus bacteria enter the body through a hair follicle or through a wound or injury that has punctured or broken the skin.
It can be on the superficial / deep tissues depending upon trauma. Cats can develop Abscess after being scratched or punctured by other cats, animals and objects. The Abscess forms when bacteria enter to the tissue and cause infection in it. Bacteria grow and multiplicate in anaerobic environment resulting white blood cells (Neutrophils, Monocytes & Macrophages) come in contact with bacteria and start fight. Now the Immunity of body , number of bacteria and site of injury may decide the abscess growth and size.
#COMPOSITION OF PUS
Dead and decaying bacteria ,WBCs body cells and exudate
Abscesses are typically described by where they are located in the body. For instance, a tooth root abscess occurs at the tip of a tooth root, and a subcutaneous abscess occurs under the skin.
#Conventional Method for Abscess treatment ;
We are treating Abscess from years by just maturing it resulting mouthing may occurs at most dependent part and pus Oz out by it self
We always convert the Immature Abscess to the mature one by Hot Fomentation / Irritants
#Surgical approach for Cutaneous Abscesses ;
Sedation is necessary in this Case Of Abscess
1) Clip the hairs with the help of hair Clipping machine
2) Clean the respective area with Chlorhexidine solution
3) Make a stab incision but make sure that the direction of incision must be toward gravity, it will really helpfull pus drainage
4) Exert pressure on the surrounding tissue/site/area with the help of gauze and force to oz out the pus from incision site
5) Wash the cavity with MgSO4 / H2O2 or with some other irritants which disrupt the pyogenic membrane*
Prognosis ;
Prognosis is good and the patient will recover with a good health
*An Abscess contains many Compartments, Each Compartment is surrounded by layer, the layer is named as pyogenic membrane. This Membrane not allow to pass the antibiotics from it that's why antibiotic is ineffective in Abscess treatment
